Servant Leader

A servant’s heart is the most important aspect of leading an organization. I have found through various leadership roles that putting “processes” over “people” can be a disastrous strategy. We’ve all worked with individuals that have the cut-throat & win at all cost mentality and while it’s great to have drive to win, it cannot be the single driving force behind “why” we do, what we do. Military & corporations alike have varying priorities with respect to developing people, but it is a foundational principle that should not be ignored. There are 21 Organizational Imperatives that we ascribe to at Geno Bradley Company. One of the Segments of the 23 Organizational Imperatives is the “Organizational Balance 5”.

5 Elements of Organizational Balance

  1. Building Relationships - Developing People

  2. Building Organizations - Developing or Improving Processes

  3. Providing Solutions - Solving Problems

  4. Continuous Improvement - Improvement System

  5. Quality of Life - Work Life Balance

Regardless to whether you are leading a small team at work, managing a large company, leading a non-profit, The Organizational Balance 5 must be considered to achieve balanced success that creates value for the organization and the employees or volunteers that make it all happen. It matters “how” we win. A win for your organization that drives your team into the dirt, or damages the environment will be a short lived victory.

As we close out the year, we will begin to explore "The 21 Organizational Imperatives" in its entirety. Here is a leadership challenge to close out this first ever blog post. Look back at the movie projector that displays the movie that is your life and identify how many people in your path have you developed. How many people have you truly invested in? Think of what levels, or roles you have developed. Are there any patterns? Are you good at developing a particular type of individual, or developing people in specific situations or environments. Now stretch. The real challenge is to go beyond that to continue with your leadership development.
